The Mark on the Tang

On a pocketknife, the maker's name is struck into the tang, the base of the blade, with a hardened steel die. That stamp is the maker's promise of quality, and the reason a counterfeit mark could do so much damage. The novel is set at the knife works in Little Valley, in western New York, where that mark was struck.
